2026 CDRA Newcomer Of The Year Contenders Stacked With Talent From Capital District and Vermont Chasing An L.D. Bossman Trophy and NOTY Honors

FONDA, NY – It’s not easy being the new driver in the field. Earning respect requires results fueled by effort, passion, and desire. For the incoming Newcomer Of The Year contenders chasing CDRA series hardware, their goals seem achievable. Show up, qualify, and finish every lap. If those goals are achieved they could vie for the L.D. Bossman and the NOTY this summer.

JAM Performance & Consulting CDRA series presented by Elmo’s Speed Supply has a pre-registered crop of NOTY contenders that declared their intent on racing full-time in 2026 with the tour by using the online driver registration tool. There’s plenty of info to dive into taking a look at these racers beginning with Lebanon Valley Speedway racer AJ Albreada.

This East Greenbush, NY racer was impressive in the valley of speed from his first green flag to his last checkered flag in 2025. He started the season winning two Limited races before moving up to Sportsman Modified where he had 13 top 10 finishes, 6 top 5 finishes, and a dub in 13 races. That landed him 7th in points, but if he ran a full season this talented shoe could’ve been on the podium.

Another NOTY contender from the valley of speed is young Cam VanZandt from Lee, MA. His schedule for 2026 is ambitious and includes racing at Albany-Saratoga, Lebanon Valley, DIRTcar tour, and CDRA. In 12 races last summer Cam had 11 top 10 finishes, 4 top 5’s, and 2 trips to victory lane. He’s young, hungry, and he’s not afraid of a challenge. Watch out for this kid.

Speaking of young guys who can park it as the kids say, keep an eye on Scotia, NY racer Bodie Marks. He’s another teen competitor with a stacked schedule for 2026 that also includes racing CDRA. He’ll contend for the NOTY and turned heads last season at Malta. In 16 races he had 14 top 10 finishes, 12 top 5’s, and 3 wins in Limited, and he was impressive in the Great Crate Classic.

Let’s stay at Albany-Saratoga for a moment and talk about one of the multiple lady racers who is not only moving up from Limited to Sportsman Modified, but challenging herself to the CDRA tour in 2026. We’re talking about Warrensburg, NY racer Jordan Hill. She had 11 top 10 finishes, 6 top 5’s, and a dub last season. Now, she’s ready to earn respect as not just a lady racer, but a racecar driver.

The buzz is real for Vermont racers coming to mix it up with CDRA’s finest starting with Salisbury, VT wheel man Brent Warren. He made it known he’s chasing the six-race tour through the Capital District while calling Albany-Saratoga his Friday night home. Last season in the green mountain state he had 6 top 10 finishes, 4 top 5’s, and a win. His first touring effort could land him the NOTY.

Bomoseen, VT racer Katrina Leclaire is ready to lead the lady contingent chasing CDRA hardware. She’s a fan favorite in the green mountain state who’s looking to make her name known in the Capital District. Last season she racked up 10 top 10 finishes, 8 top 5’s, and a win racing Saturday night weekly. Moving up to Sportsman Modified and touring for 2026 may result in a NOTY.

Another popular lady racer who will be a welcomed addition to CDRA is Queensbury, NY racer Raelin Dunham. Guiding her young career is Raelin’s father Paul Dunham Jr. who was a successful racer himself. She spent time last summer racing Novice, but instead of moving into Limited, which is another form of novice, she’s going Sportsman Modified touring and is plenty capable. Last summer she had 12 top 10 finishes, 8 top 5’s, and 2 wins finishing 4th in Saturday night points.

Last but not least, pre-registered racer from Gloversville, NY EJ Gallup is a NOTY contender. Gallup has a busy schedule preventing serious weekly commitment. He frequents Utica Rome and Glen Ridge, but a six-race series schedule suits him. Last season he entered a pair of CDRA events and scored two top 15 finishes. EJ has the skillset to vie for the NOTY honors in a stacked field.

More Newcomer Of The Year contenders may emerge as the season progresses this summer, but one thing is already certain; whomever claims the NOTY honors will have earned it. This will again be a storyline frequently talked about alongside the chase for the L.D. Bossman championship trophy. The most common advice for young racers or NOTY contenders; stick with it. Finish.

UP NEXT FOR CDRA: The season starts April 17, 2026, at Albany-Saratoga Speedway for CDRA racers. 25 laps for $1,300 to win on Malta’s 61st season opener. Also, on the race card are Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modifieds and DIRTcar Pro Stocks. Limited Sportsman drivers are welcome to attempt to qualify and race in the Spring Shootout.

CDRA is a nostalgic throwback to CVRA days. Each season consists of a diverse schedule based around storied dirt tracks in the Capitaland such as Albany-Saratoga, Lebanon Valley, and Glen Ridge. Drivers who participate have the opportunity to earn hardware and monetary rewards for their efforts.

Lebanon Valley and Albany-Saratoga Crown Jewel PPE’s To Play Important Role In Chase For L.D. Bossman Championship Trophy

FONDA, NY – The 2025 JAM Performance CDRA Racing Series points championship presented by Elmo’s Speed Supply has a new twist for Season Three with the addition of two ‘Crown Jewel’ points paying events for drivers chasing the L.D. Bossman Championship Trophy in 2026.

CDRA Crown Jewel points paying events are races on the series schedule that will give drivers an opportunity to earn more points than in past seasons. While standard points awarded are 100 for the winner, 97 for second, and down by 1 point to last with 50 points awarded for DNS or DNQ competitors, Crown Jewel events are essentially double that.

Crown Jewel points paying events will be worth 200 points for the winner, 197 for second, and down by 1 point to last. Any competitor who does not qualify (DNQ) or is unable to start the main event (DNS) will be awarded 100 points.

“First, we must acknowledge that all tracks, Albany-Saratoga, Glen Ridge, and Lebanon are important to earning a series championship with CDRA,” competition director and series promoter Rob Hazer began.

He continued saying, “The main reason we made this distinction for 1/3 of our schedule was to have a heavier weighted race early in the season and one race weighted heavier at the back end of the season, with what we commonly call ‘the grind’ as the bulk of work competitors put in towards earning the L.D. Bossman Championship Trophy.”

By structuring a pair of PPE’s to be worth essentially double the points, it creates a larger separation naturally between series regulars and other competitors. However, the point differential within the distribution of points remains the same whether the race is valued at 100 to win or 200 to win. This means either scale, it’s only 25 points between 1st and 24th. This keeps the point chase tight.

“While all races are important on our schedule and we value all tracks involved, there’s two races the drivers talk about most and we listen. They talk about winning Mr. Crate Track USA and they want that Malta Massive Weekend winners’ belt, which we titled the Great Crate Classic,” concluded Rob Hazer.

The first Crown Jewel PPE for CDRA Sportsman Modified is at Lebanon Valley Speedway on June 16, 2026, during the Mr. Dirt Track Super DIRTcar Big Block Modified Series night.

The second Crown Jewel PPE for CDRA Sportsman Modified takes place at Albany-Saratoga Speedway on September 25, 2026, during Malta Massive Weekend with the Great Crate Classic. This race is also a DIRTcar Championship Sportsman race with a talented field expected.

Challenging the racers and keeping fans engaged in the point battle storylines is what CDRA is all about, and the addition of a championship point scale for Crown Jewel PPE’s on the six-race tour schedule does just that. Whoever earns the L.D. Bossman Championship Trophy named in honor of Malta’s late promoter Lyle DeVore, will have earned bragging rights as King Of The Capital District.

Power Five Episode 2601 Takes A Look At Past, Present, and Future CDRA Racers In Anticipation For Season Three

03/23/26: Darryl Nutting (42), Connor Crane (711X), and Taylor Wason (07W) race for position during last season’s Spring Shootout opener. (Jeremy McGaffin Photo | CDRA 2026)

FONDA, NY – Typically, Power Five is a feature of CDRA racing between points paying events that highlights top five drivers in championship point standings. This pre-season special offers something different looking at past, present, and future Sportsman Modified in preparation for the highly anticipated Season Three Spring Shootout points opener at Albany-Saratoga Speedway.

First up is a final look back at JAM Performance & Consulting CDRA final championship standings presented by Elmo’s Speed Supply from Season Two last summer. It was a David and Goliath battle between defending series champion Taylor Wason and perennial title contender Tim Hartman Jr. with some talented up and comers sprinkled in the mix.

Glenville, NY hot shoe Tim Hartman Jr. is having a career decade racing for car owner Mike Parillo. TH2 has amassed over 100 wins in the MRP owned machines with multiple manufacturers including Troyer, Bicknell, and DKM. Hartman scored two victories in route to his first CDRA series title in 2025 with his Kick Fly’s Quality Hemp Products, Bemiss Trucking, and Ideal Excavating ride.

Next up for last season’s Power Five was Middlegrove, NY racer and 2024 champion Taylor Wason. The ‘Middlegrove Missile’ put forth an impressive title defense last summer including recording his first series win coming at Glen Ridge. Wason used that victory to secure second place in final championship standings driving his Lenihan Paving, Lake Auto Parts, and HICO Fabrication mount.

Nick Brundige of Round Lake, NY went tour racing with CDRA in 2025 with his Capital District Towing, Miller Motorsports, and DE Designs 916 race rod. Nick earned the prestigious NOTY (Newcomer Of The Year) award, while finishing third place in championship point standings. It was an entertaining battle for position down to the final points paying event with Tavien Blowers.

Tavien Blowers of Caroga Lake, NY races hard and nearly grabbed his first series win at the Ridge. Blowers went Hoosier-to-Hoosier with DIRTcar Sportsman Modified heavy hitter Gavin Eisele finishing an exciting runner up in the East Series race and CDRA points paying event racing his O’Connor Towing, Miracle Ear, and New Image Lawn Care Mark O’Connor owned Bicknell.

Rounding out the Power Five from last season is Latham, NY racer Zach Buff. Buff has been a top racer with CDRA with the Ray Sefrin owned West End Towing & Repair, Buff’s Auto Service, and DIG Race Products Bicknell. Zach has a series win to his credit and four top five finishes. Last season he scored two finishes inside the top five leading him to remain in the title contender’s conversation.

Shifting gears, but staying with the Power Five theme, here’s a look at some drivers pre-registered declaring their intent to compete full-time with CDRA in 2026 that are not exactly newcomers.

Let’s start with Saratoga Springs, NY racer Michael Ballestero. He’s bringing his Stone’s Pharmacy, M&J Construction, and Generations Auto race rod on tour this season with CDRA and should contend for the title. After all Mike is one of the all-time winningest drivers at the great race place, and has five series starts to his credit. One of the Capital Districts seasoned competitors.

Next in title conversation looking to earn the L.D. Bossman Championship Trophy is Canaan, CT big brother Chris Crane Jr. has already parked his Greenacres Landscaping, Crane’s Outdoor Power Equipment, and SABCO Performance Bicknell in CDRA victory lane twice including a Malta Massive Weekend Great Crate Classic win in 2024. Chris is a bonified title contender for Season Three.

Little brother Connor Crane, also from Canaan, CT may carry a similar look as big brother Chris, but ‘kid cushion’ has emerged a high side hustler and feature winner. Connor parked his race rocket in victory lane at Albany-Saratoga in 2025 during Malta Massive Weekend for a Great Crate Classic win of his own. He too could contend for a ticket to title town during Season Three.

Next driver to pre-register and declare their intent to compete full-time with CDRA in 2026 is none other than ‘Mikey Wags’ or as his momma named him, Michael Wagner-Fitzgerald. The well-mannered soft-spoken kid from Gansevoort, NY was in the NOTY mix last season before missing a PPE. He has the skillset to compete with the best tour talents in the Capitaland for a title.

Last, but not least, for this group of five is none other than William August, more affectionately known to his peers as ‘nubz’. The seasoned racer has some time behind the wheel and experiences to quietly, or not, make some noise in his Electric City Taxi, GNC Trees, and Self Motorsports ride. If he pulls off the upset, there will be a party in Ballston Spa, NY for sure.

Now, this group of five is our NOTY contenders who have pre-registered through the website. There will be a full breakdown on these drivers in a future article, but for now let’s name five drivers who just might turn some heads during the 2026 CDRA season.

East Greenbush, NY racer AJ Albreada, Scotia, NY racer Bodie Marks, Whitting, VT racer Brent Warren, Gloversville, NY racer EJ Gallup, and Lee, MA racer Cam VanZandt are all top contenders to earn the NOTY in Season three. Some may even contend for the series title. There are more racers, and again an in depth look at the NOTY class of ’26 will be coming prior to the season opener.

There’s a lot of knowledge packed into this article about racers’ past, present, and future. More info is coming with our look ahead at the Newcomer Of The Year contenders. Earning the L.D. Bossman Championship Trophy for Season Three is shaping up to be the biggest and hardest Capital District Sportsman Modified challenge yet.

UP NEXT FOR CDRA: The season starts April 17, 2026 at Albany-Saratoga Speedway for CDRA racers. 25 laps for $1,300 to win during Malta’s 61st season opener. Season Three Offering Exclusive Dual Piston Hardware To Series Winners At Each Points Paying Event

03/02/26: Dual Piston hardware will be exclusive to CDRA for seasons to come, and seasons past as a signal of a drivers victorious run during series points paying events. (CDRA Graphic | CDRA 2026)

FONDA, NY – As the new racing season approaches, CDRA officials wanted to turn up the prestige a bit to win a JAM Performance & Consulting CDRA racing series event presented by Elmo’s Speed Supply. To do so, the series needed to offer something exclusive and limited. That led to official Dual Piston victory trophy for winners in series competition.

Currently the new Dual Piston winning trophy is being designed with the intent to be produced by TC Creations out of Adams, MA. The Dual Piston trophy will be awarded to drivers who earn victory in a CDRA points paying event. This hardware will be awarded along with whatever hardware tracks are presenting to the victors.

CDRA believes it’s not always the monetary loot that makes winning a notable accomplishment, but the exclusivity of the spoils that come with being victorious. There are only six opportunities to reach CDRA victory lane each season making opportunities limited, and some of the events are staples of Sportsman Modified racing in the Capital District.

That concept brings about the formation of a very special renamed championship trophy for the 2026 season. The concept isn’t new and is inspired by trophies such as the Buzzie, Golden Driller, or World Finals. Stay tuned for the full story on the LD Bossman championship trophy, which will be releasing soon from CDRA.

UP NEXT FOR CDRA: The season starts April 17, 2026 at Albany-Saratoga Speedway for CDRA racers. 25 laps for $1,300 to win on Malta’s 61st season opener. Before that, it’s car show season.

Current CDRA Champion Tim Hartman Jr. Has Over 100 Wins Driving For MRP Making It Safe To Say Sportsman Modified Racing In The Capital District Runs On Timmy Time

02/13/26: Tim Hartman Jr. (22) races with Michael Wagner-Fitzgerald (88) at Albany-Saratoga Speedway during the 2025 Flying Trowel. (Jeremy McGaffin Photo | CDRA 2025)

GLENVILLE, NY – Tim Hartman Jr. is no stranger to JAM Performance & Consulting CDRA racing presented by Elmo’s Speed Supply. In two seasons he earned status as notable mention then series regular, which in his first full-time effort he earned the Capital District Crown punching his ticket to title town. With a winning lineage and his own drive to succeed, TH2 has emerged one of the best Sportsman Modified racers on dirt.

Hartman leads all drivers with four CDRA wins, while also being one of the most decorated competitors on tour. He’s earned a championship award, driver of the year award, and an honorable mention award. But leading all-time win lists and earning championships is not new for big time little Tim but setting a good example for his children to be proud of is unchartered waters.

Recently CDRA had a chance to catch up with the champ to talk all things racing, his decade of winning with car owner Mike Parillo, his appreciation of a good steak and wild cherry Pepsi, and what’s next in his racing career.

CDRA: Tim, all you needed was a pair of races at the ridge added to your schedule and you were a series regular. A place you’re familiar with and won races at. You did that in 2025, and here we are today talking about your series title.

TH2: Yeah our first year with CDRA was great. I had paid attention to the series in 2024, but wasn’t in position to run all the races. So, in 2025, we made a conscious decision to commit full-time, because we only had to add those two Glen Ridge races. Given that was previously a home track for me, we were looking forward to getting back there and seeing how good we would be.

CDRA: It did look like you were competitive at both races there for not racing the ridge in quite some time too.

TH2: We did have competitive cars in each race and could’ve maybe put up another win or two, but to earn the series title was awesome. Especially with the point funds payout, which was almost more than I’ve ever earned with another series or track title. We will definitely be back to support the series in 2026.

CDRA: Speaking of adding wins to your resume, last summer you won a big one with Mr. Crate Track USA at Lebanon Valley. In victory lane we all found out that it was your 100th win with car owner Mike Parillo. Knowing some of the talent he’s fielded cars for, that has to feel good what you guys have been able to accomplish together?

TH2: Winning 100 features with Mike Parillo as car owner is unbelievable. Funny enough, our journey didn’t start out so well. Back in 2015 we decided to race McDonald’s weekend, and I didn’t even finish practice before I was upside down with a destroyed racecar. Fortunately he didn’t kick me out of the seat right then.

CDRA: Safe to say you’re glad he came back to you to run it back?

TH2: Yes for sure. I honestly never thought I’d be able to say I accomplished 100 wins. I couldn’t have accomplished so much without his support. The success we’ve had together over the past decade is incredible. We’ve been able to park it in victory lane at 10 different racetracks together as a team, and we’ve earned 13 different track and/or series championships.

CDRA: You were doing well with the family-owned operation, but MRP took your career to a new level. Therefore, you must have noticed a tremendous amount of growth as a racer from early days to where you are now right?

TH2: I would say so. I remember back when I started in a Sportsman car as a 16-year-old kid. Which was young at that time, hell now at age 16 is like a kid’s fifth year racing. But I was pretty anxious to be racing against the same guys my dad raced. That subsided quickly, because we came out of the box swinging with a second-place finish in my first race ever and now I’m an old man in the division.

CDRA: That how you view yourself these days? Sort of the seasoned veteran, or the wily old racer?

TH2: Kind of. I often have younger drivers seek me out at the track or during the week to ask questions or advice. I’m always happy to answer them, because I was young once in their shoes and it meant a lot when a veteran driver took time to talk with me. It showed respect as fellow drivers. So, now I try to do that for them.

CDRA: Admirable. Very. So, winning a championship first year on tour sets the bar pretty high. How do you plan to raise the stakes? To set the bar higher sort of speak?

TH2: Well, the goal is always to win. Every time we touch the track, and doesn’t matter if it’s practice, heat races, consolations, or features…I want to win. Also goes for championships. The day my goals no longer include winning races and championships, is the day I quit racing. So, I guess the real question is what are my expectations? And my answer is to show up ready to race, and unload a competitive racecar.

CDRA: Ever think at your level of competitiveness a clean sweep is possible?

TH2: Well, I’m realistic. I understand no one wins every week, but at this point in my career anything less than racing for wins and championships isn’t good enough. Come September 2026, I plan on being in the title hunt again at both tracks and with the series.

CDRA: The confidence is astounding. And rightfully so, look at your accomplishments. But, when you want to dial it back, what does Tim Hartman Jr. do when he’s not chasing trophies and titles?

TH2: Racing and work consume pretty much most of my time. I do however like to focus on the kids go-karts. We have to get them ready for the car show at Colonie Center in March. So, even in the off season I’m in the garage. But, honestly, it’s totally worth it to see my kids getting into it and I love the fact they enjoy doing something I enjoy doing.

CDRA: Future generations of Hartman racers has a legacy ring to it doesn’t it? How are the kids doing so far?

TH2: Brexley is starting to come into her own as a solid little driver. I think she’s up to 13 or so wins over the last two summers. And considering she’s so competitive, I expect she’ll get even better. Now Jaxon grew up as a non-racer until last year when he wanted to try. And I think he found his niche. He has a combination of natural ability and fearlessness that wins races. And they combine that with a massive drive to learn. Those things can lead to a lot of success in the future.

CDRA: Who are a few young drivers you got your eye on that you race with?

TH2: At Malta where we race weekly, I think of the Crane’s and Craig Wholey. I believe they have the ability to win many more races, I just hope I’m retired by then. At Lebanon Valley where we race Saturdays weekly I’m a big fan of Owen Lewis. The kid is still in his teens, works harder than 95% of his peers, and he likes to learn. He’ll ask questions and actively listen to the answer. I would like to see him win.

CDRA: All good stuff. Quality Timmy Time well spent. Let’s wrap it up with some people who have influenced, motivated, and supported your racing career. Bet you’re starting with the other champ in the family or are we wrong?

TH2: Obviously my father is number one on the influence list. I wouldn’t be doing any of this without him. As we’ve navigated through 17 years of racing we’ve both taken on ever-evolving roles. In the beginning of my career dad did everything including owning our cars. Once Mike gave us the opportunity to drive for him, dad took on the role of an awesome crew chief. Plus, his full-time job is maintaining racecars. He leaves the set-up stuff to me. Definitely he’s been my biggest supporter since day one.

CDRA: Parillo praise coming in hot?

TH2: You know it. I already touched on it, but seriously Mike Parillo’s confidence in me as a driver and us as a team has been a huge influence on me. I must say, I’m a multi-time champion because of him. He put his trust in me and gave me everything we needed to perform at a high-level winning races. And he did that without even really knowing much about who I was at that time. I knew he was as driven as I was based on the success he had with other drivers before I came along. He’s a future hall-of-fame car owner and I’m proud to be associated with him.

CDRA: Let’s pretend it’s the white flag lap. The dub is just around 4 more corners. Who inspired you to get to victory lane?

TH2: Well, as I enter the next phase of my racing career I strive to be a racer Brexley and Jaxon can be proud of on and off track. I want them to be proud to tell people, that’s my dad. He wins and he’s good at what he does and he’s a good person. And that has a 360 effect too. We three are super competitive, so I push them to learn and win while they push me to evolve and win more. The kids make the hard work worth it. I honestly couldn’t imagine having it any other way.

One of the biggest oxymorons in racing is the age-old debate whether you do or you don’t like a driver that wins a lot. Because in one breath race fans mutter so-and-so wins too much, and in the other breath they cheer for their favorite to win often. Or as some would say, too much. Big Time Little Tim is going to keep winning. And he has a skillset that will earn him many more accolades.

Former Champion Taylor Wason Took Time To Talk CDRA Racing, Title Defenses, and Favorite Hobbies When Not Behind The Wheel Of His Sportsman Modified

01/10/26: Taylor Wason is preparing for CDRA Season Three. Pictured here on the high banks of Lebanon Valley Speedway. (Bill McGaffin Photo | CDRA)

MIDDLEGROVE, NY – Naysayers in motorsports are quick to judge these days, especially if a driver punches a ticket to title town without a trip to victory lane. Season One JAM Performance & Consulting CDRA series presented by Elmo’s Speed Supply champion Taylor Wason knows this all too well, but it was his title defense in Season Two that grew his fan base.

With CDRA series buzz growing, Wason knew defending his title would be no easy task with more Capital District racers joining the championship chase. He did, however, have a few goals to achieve in his title defense. Going Hoosier-to-Hoosier in a point tussle with a Sportsman Modified titan Tim Hartman Jr. was the story he needed for his growth as a competitor, a team, and a man.

Here’s a chat we had with Taylor about his Sophomore campaign on tour, his first series win, and just how he feels about those who throw shade at the ‘Middlegrove Missile’.

CDRA: Taylor, let’s start by reflecting on your Season Two efforts. Can you reflect a little on how you feel you and your team defended your title?

TW: “I feel we did alright defending our Season One title during Season Two (2025). We just didn’t execute a few nights when we needed to, and it hurt us.”

CDRA: Since you touched on what you feel hurt your title defense efforts, what part of the season stood out to you? Either good or bad.

TW: “I’d say our first race stood out to me. The way we overcame adversity from a bad pill draw, to running the LCQ, to climbing through the field to finish 14th after starting 22nd showed the strength of our team. Of course, on the good side our win at Glen Ridge stood out. Those are the results we expect at this point.”

CDRA: Getting that first tour win took a bit of time, but it had to feel good. Tell us, what did you learn while defending your title that helped you grow as a driver?

TW: “Honestly this past season taught me patience and overcoming adversity. It taught me no matter what, keep my nose to the grindstone. Keep working, and keep grinding on and off track. It’s a lesson you can apply to racing, and in life.”

CDRA: Since we’re talking about growth, maybe elaborate for us a little on how you’ve grown since you started racing open wheel Sportsman Modified back in 2019? We can imagine you’ve grown on and off the track acquiring knowledge and honing skills?

TW: “Absolutely. Since we started back then (2019) we’ve come a long way as a team. We’ve consumed a lot of knowledge to apply to the racecar that I can use to help me on the track. That and seat time. And it was a huge learning curve switching to coils. Just learning what all the adjustments mean and how they’ll effect the car all plays into making my job behind the wheel easier.”

CDRA: It’s fantastic to hear young racers learning and learning the right way. Which brings us to the question, as one of CDRA’s top performing racers over two seasons with a title and a win under your belt and now a three-time Honors award winner, what goals have you and the team set for Season Three in 2026?

TW: “We’re going to keep grinding. Keep learning. We want to continue learning and growing as a team and myself as a driver. This will make sure we’re competitive every time we unload at the tracks.”

CDRA: And to the naysayers? The ones who said you couldn’t do it, won’t do it, or shouldn’t do it? How does Taylor Wason shut that noise out? It can get overwhelming at times for racers, especially young guys.

TW: “Truthfully, the opportunity to prove them wrong motivates me. Anyone who has ever thought less of me as a racer, or put me down drives me to succeed. From teachers, to classmates, to peers, just any doubters really. Keep telling me I can’t, and I will show that I can.”

CDRA: That’s deep thinking, but enough ‘shop talk’ tell us what entertains Taylor Wason off track when he’s not slapping clay in the Capital District?

TW: “When I’m not in the shop or racing, I enjoy some I-Racing. There’s also work. That never stops.”

Wason has the tools, skillset, and support through family and fans to continue his drive towards the level of success that creates envy in others. He defended his championship valiantly before ultimately ended up 2nd in final points to multi-time feature winner and track champion Tim Hartman Jr. Watch for the Lenihan Paving Bicknell Racing Chassis 07w during Season Three.

UP NEXT FOR CDRA: Coming soon we have a special chat with CDRA Season Two (2025) champion Tim Hartman Jr. Also, fans should eagerly await the release of Season Three points paying schedule.

Limited Sportsman Possible Under CDRA Banner In Future Seasons

FONDA, NY – What if, and it’s just an idea to grow exposure for racers at this point, but what if CDRA grew a little for Season Three and beyond? It’s believed there’s an opportunity, a reason, and a goal to do just that with Limited Sportsman racers.

CDRA Limited Sportsman Series basic concept: 3 tracks, 3 races, 1 champion. 100% participation required for any point fund eligibility and strict driver eligibility rules geared towards the spirit of the division and its intent.

Opportunities: For CDRA, there’s the opportunity to feature more racers from the Capital District, all be it on a smaller scale with Limited Sportsman. For drivers, there’s an opportunity to grow through the process of ‘series’ experience, gaining knowledge, and eventually becoming competitive Sportsman Modified teams.

Reason: There is an interest and/or almost demand for further recognition of future Sportsman Modified stars coming through the ranks. With each participating track already offering a healthy Limited Sportsman division, we could help offer that recognition and publicity as Capital District racers progress.

Goal: Our goal would be to offer a ‘Limited’ version of our Sportsman Modified series working with our friends and partners at JAM and ELMO to educate, and grow drivers’ knowledge and notebooks. Hopefully this would lead to drivers being confident and comfortable enough to move up to join the Sportsman Modified division.

There is nothing set in stone yet. CDRA is just looking for feedback from Limited Sportsman racers. Contact us with any questions.

UP NEXT FOR CDRA: Coming up for CDRA racing is a pair of articles written about drivers that fans might know. Tim Hartman Jr., Nick Brundige, Connor Crane, Taylor Wason, Tavien Blowers, Zach Buff, and Chris Crane Jr. Earn Season Two CDRA Racing Honors

FONDA, NY – On Friday December 19th the JAM Performance & Consulting CDRA Racing Series presented by Elmo’s Speed Supply released a full list of Season Two (2025) Honors award recipients led by points champion and Driver Of The Year Tim Hartman Jr.

CDRA believes for any honor or award to hold prestige and value, it must be limited in availability. For racers competing on tour, this follows the theme considering points are at a premium each event as the schedule only consists of six races per season. This means honors are well earned.

Glenville, NY racer Tim Hartman Jr. closed out Season Two with a pair of honors. Of course he earned the points championship, but TH2 was also named CDRA racing Driver Of The Year. This makes Tim a three-time award winner and currently the all-time leader in wins with four.

Round Lake, NY racer Nick Brundige has arguably his best season to date. For the first time in his young career, he toured the Capital District with CDRA where he earned Newcomer Of The Year honors. His best tour finish to date is 4th and the NOTY is his first series honor.

Outstanding Performance Of The Year stayed with the 711 Racing team and Crane family, after Connor Crane was awarded the honor for his exciting win during Malta Massive Weekend in the Great Crate Race. For ‘kid cushion’ it was his first series award where he finished 6th in points.

Season One series champion Taylor Wason from Middle Grove, NY continues to earn notoriety through his CDRA racing efforts. Wason defended his title valiantly in Season Two and earned his first tour win. He was voted by the fans as Fan Favorite Of The Year, his third series honor overall.

Final Honors for CDRA to award were honorable mentions for racers with solid performances finishing top ten in final points. Those drivers included Caroga Lake, NY driver Tavien Blowers, Latham, NY racer Zach Buff, and Canaan, CT young gun Chris Crane Jr.

Tavien Blowers finished 4th in point after a spirited battle with NOTY winner Nick Brundige. He had an impressive runner up finish nearly winning the DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series and CDRA points paying race at Glen Ridge in early August.

Zach Buff has been top five in final CDRA points for two consecutive seasons. He even has a tour win to his credit. The multi-time track champion and DIRTcar Sportsman Modified winner earned his second CDRA honor when named Notable Mention for Season Two.

Chris Crane Jr. had one of those character-building seasons. He overcame adversity multiple times this season at his weekly stomping grounds in Malta on Friday nights, which included three CDRA points paying races. It was enough to earn him 7th in final points and his second series honor.

“I’m proud of all drivers this season who competed for CDRA series points. We had regulars, notable mentions, and some invaders who all did well. The top ten in final standings is where we usually find our honors award winners and this year we had a solid group who earned the notoriety,” said competition director Rob Hazer.

Derrick McGrew Jr Shines For Capital District Sportsman Modified Racers While Pole Sitter Zach Buff Struggles During Great Lakes 75 At Super Dirt Week

10/11/25: Derrick McGrew Jr. of Ballston Spa, NY charged from 18th to 5th at Super Dirt Week 53 in the Great Lakes 75 DIRTcar Sportsman fall championship. He led all CDRA regulars and notable mentions. (Bill McGaffin Photo | RPW 2025)

OSWEGO, NY – Of all Capital District racers to qualify for the Great Lakes 75 DIRTcar Sportsman championship race at Super Dirt Week 53, it was Ballston Spa, NY racer Derrick McGrew Jr. whose talent light shined bright. McGrew led all CDRA regulars and notable mentions with an impressive fifth place finish when the checkered flag flew.

McGrew Jr. started his qualifying week off just 64th on the speed charts after practice with a lap time of 22.906. His team, led by his championship and multiple-feature winning father Derrick Sr., went to work to find speed in the Next Generation Roofing, West End Towing & Repair, and Herron Realty number 26 Bicknell Racing Chassis.

The young gun was able to find that speed and begin his trend forward by timing 8th overall in his time trial group, which featured some heavy hitting Sportsman Modified competitors such as Chad Edwards, Jessica Power, Mike Fowler, Brett Sears, and Donovan Lussier to mention a few.

Speaking of Canadian racer Donovan Lussier, Derrick McGrew Jr. would find himself in the pits early during his 15-lap qualifying event after inadvertent contact with Lussier resulted in attention required by the 26 crew. He’d return to the speedway and charge to a fifth-place finish locking McGrew into the 18th starting position for the Great Lakes 75.

Patience was key for young McGrew. With multiple wins to his credit in 2025, the CDRA notable mention had 75 laps to make his mark on Super Dirt Week, and he did just that. Starting 18th, he’d methodically begin hustling the high side and dodging accidents on his way forward. He’d even find himself in a wildly entertaining race with the DIRTcar Sportsman series point leader Shane Pecore.

After a spirited run past 13 other competitors, McGrew crossed the finish line solidly in 5th. Tops of all Capital District racers at Super Dirt Week 53 and leading all CDRA regulars and notable mentions. A valiant effort and another top five finish in the Great Lakes 75 for the Ballston Spa, NY racer who is a chip off the old block.

Hopes were high for Zach Buff who started on the pole, but never really seemed to capture the setup for the 75-lap main event. An uncharacteristically struggle-filled performance saw Buff slide back to finish 12th. Tough day at the office for the Glen Ridge track champion.

Chris Crane Jr. out of Canaan, CT was the only other CDRA regular or notable mention to qualify for the Great Lakes 75. Crane started 25th and was looking at cracking the top 15 before an unfortunate accident that started ahead of him sent him to the pits. He’d return and manage to finish 24th place.

For little brother Connor ‘kid cushion’ Crane, and fellow CDRA regulars and notable mentions Tavien Blowers and Michael Wagner-Fitzgerald, they sadly missed the cut and were not qualified to run the Great Lakes 75. Next year expect them to come back with a notebook and fierce determination to qualify at Super Dirt Week.

UP NEXT FOR CDRA: Next up for CDRA are the annual Honors awards, which will be released December 19th just one week before Christmas. They include honoring the Champion Tim Hartman Jr., Newcomer Of The Year (NOTY) Nick Brundige, the Driver Of The Year (DOTY), Outstanding Performance Of The Year (OPTY), Fan Favorite Of The Year (FOTY), Honorable Mentions Of The Year (HOTY), and the top 10 drivers in final point standings.

Buff and McGrew Roar Into Great Lakes 75 DIRTcar Sportsman Championship Race At Super Dirt Week 53; Crane, Blowers, and Fitzgerald In LCS Events

10/10/25: Zach Buff continues to impress at Super Dirt Week 53. CDRA regular has won the pole and his qualifier ahead of the Great Lakes 75 DIRTcar Sportsman event. (Bill McGaffin Photo | RPW 2025)

OSWEGO, NY – Five Sportsman Modified racers from the Capital District have locked into the Great Lakes 75 DIRTcar Sportsman Championship race today at Super Dirt Week 53 in Oswego, NY. Of those drivers two are CDRA regulars and notable mentions. Zach Buff is the SRI Performance and Stock Car Steel Aluminum pole sitter and Derrick McGrew Jr. will start 18th.

Short and sweet, Zach Buff is having a dream week at the Clay Palace. The Amsterdam, NY racer set DIRTcar Sportsman chat on fire after earning the SRI Performance/Stock Car Steel and Aluminum pole award for today’s Great Lakes 75 championship race. He backed that up by storming to a 15-lap qualifier win.

Derrick McGrew Jr. led CDRA notable mentions following Thursday night qualifiers. The Ballston Spa, NY racer started his 15-lap qualifying event in trouble after inadvertent contact with Donovan Lussier sent him to the pits. He rejoined the field and raced his way to a 5th place finish earning the 18th starting spot in the Great Lakes 75 DIRTcar Sportsman championship event on Saturday.

Chris Crane Jr. will lead the charge of CDRA regulars and notables attempting to make the big show through the last chance qualifiers today. The Canaan, CT racer will be joined in LCS action by little brother Connor, Michael Wagner-Fitzgerald, and Tavien Blowers. All of these drivers will be looking to transfer to the main 75-lap event.

Next up for CDRA racers at Super Dirt Week 53 after LCS races will be the Great Lakes 75 DIRTcar Sportsman Fall Championship. A crown jewel for the Sportsman Modified teams and a victory would catapult someone to another level.
