Joey Scarborough Opened CDRA Point Season Winning At Albany-Saratoga and Now Looks To Overcome 2 Point Deficit To Capture CDRA Tittle and L.D. Bossman Championship Trophy

BRANDON, VT – 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼?The bandito is heavily in the conversation to punch a ticket to title town winning the JAM Performance & Consulting CDRA series points title presented by Elmo’s Speed Supply and the L.D. Bossman Championship Trophy named in honor of Lyle DeVore.

Brandon, VT racer Joey Scarborough is another points contender of the six still alive in the championship chase with just one point paying event left on the 2026 CDRA schedule. It happens September 25^th at the great race place and includes DIRTcar Sportsman fall series racers.

So, what’s his easiest road to CDRA immortality? Win. If he wins, he’s the champ. It’s that easy. Or is it? Scarborough who is the DIRTcar East Region series champ will have to top the talent rich Capital District driver pool and a loaded field of competitors following DIRTcar Sportsman points.

If Scarborough doesn’t win, he can still earn the title. If he finishes 3 or more spots ahead of Chris Crane Jr. he’ll win the title by ONE POINT. Meaning a 2^nd on back, he needs to be 3 spots ahead of Crane. 2 spots equal a tie in points, and we go to the tiebreaker. Yes, we have tie breaker metrics.

CDRA believes heavily in crowning a champion, but not co-champions. Any tie in points would be broken one of two ways, as has been practiced since inception. First, we go to podium finishes. That’s top 3’s (1^st, 2^nd, 3^rd) not just wins. If still tied, it’s simply the better finisher in the final PPE.

As of right now if Scarborough was to tie Crane Jr., the title would be awarded to Joey who has 3 podium finishes to Crane’s 2. Both racers have had equally strong campaigns this year with CDRA, and yes, it’s that tight for the title. A hard, clean, leave it all on the track race is what fans are in store for.

“Joey is a good racer. He races hard, aggressive, and has every bit of talent to seal the deal and earn the title. He won at Malta to open the season, and if he bookends our points schedule with another win he’d take back the point lead by overcoming the 2 point deficit, and claim the title and trophy for himself. He’ll be the first Vermont racer to earn such an accolade with CDRA. He’s a quiet young man, veteran of the division, and not surprising he’s in title contention,” said CDRA competition director Rob Hazer.

Next driver we’ll look at of the six title contenders is ‘kid cushion’ Connor Crane. We’ll talk about how he can punch his ticket to title town and what he needs to happen so he can overcome a 5-point deficit.

Chris Crane Jr. Controls His Own Destiny As CDRA Point Leader With One Race Left In 2026 Racing Season For Series Contenders

CANAAN, CT – 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼? There are six racers in the hunt to win the L.D. Bossman Championship Trophy and earn their first JAM Performance & Consulting CDRA racing series title presented by Elmo’s Speed Supply. We will break them down one-by-one each Monday starting with point leader Chris Crane Jr.

The Canaan, CT racer has the easiest path to title town. If he wins, or finishes ahead of the other five championship contenders, the crown and L.D. Bossman Trophy is his. And, while he has indeed claimed victory during Malta Massive Weekend, it’s a task easier said than done.

Now, if Chris Crane Jr. doesn’t win, the opportunity for one of his competitors to climb to the top is there starting with second place Joey Scarborough, who is a mere 2 points behind. A win for the 11vt means no ticket to title town for Crane.

If Scarborough finishes any other position, Crane cannot be more than ONE spot behind. A second-place finish for Scarborough and fourth place finish for Crane means a tie and we go to the tiebreaker(s).

Chris Crane Jr. has two CDRA wins to his credit, but yet to park it in G&R Motorsports victory lane in 2026. He does have two top five finishes and 4 top 10’s. It would be an ideal time to earn a win during the championship deciding race at Malta.

“Chris has a 2-point lead on Joey. I mean our entire top six are in the mix, and that’s the positive drama you want in a point championship battle. But Crane is a great kid. Off track he’s doing big things socially, economically, and educationally. He graduated this year and to add a championship to all his off-track success would be nothing short of a career year for him,” said CDRA competition director Rob Hazer.

We’ll look at the path for others to claim the title as we go, including title contenders Joey Scarborough, Connor Crane, Derrick McGrew Jr., Taylor Wason, and Nick Brundige. Next Monday we’ll look at Joey Scarborough and his path to title town.

Derrick McGrew Jr. Shines In CDRA Rumble At The Ridge During DIRTcar Sportsman Championship Points Event At Glen Ridge Motorsports Park

FULTONVILLE, NY – Sunday night at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park fans were treated to a fantastic Sportsman Modified race with heavy implications. The clash between CDRA title hopefuls and DIRTcar stars taking their first swing at fall championship points exploded into a 40-lap Rumble At The Ridge where Ballston Spa, NY young gun Derrick McGrew Jr. came away victorious.

Canaan, CT racer and previous CDRA PPE winner Connor Crane and Ballston Spa, NY racer Derrick McGrew Jr. led the 30-car starting field to the green with Crane quickly establishing the lead. McGrew was comfortably in second left to fend off challenges from Alexandria, ON racer Tristan Ladouceur and Fulton, NY wheel man Richard Murtaugh III.

Sprinkled into the early race mix for position inside the top ten were Lee, MA young gun Cam VanZandt, DIRTcar tour star Nigel Pendykoski of Niagara Falls, ON, and multi-time champion and track superstar Zach Buff from Amsterdam, NY.

After nine laps the field was slowed to a stop for a red flag when Warrensburg, NY lady racer Jordan Hill took a tumble off turn three. Hill is a regular with CDRA in 2026 and in the mix for both the NOTY and the Rated Rookie of the Year. Jordan was uninjured in the accident and walked away on her own.

Crane would continue to lead when the race returned to green, but McGrew had found something. McGrew would move up a lane and find that glorious combination of speed and momentum. He charged the rear bumper of the 711x of Crane and used a lap 19 high side pass to take over the lead.

Connor who won last time out at Glen Ridge, then saw Zach Buff go around him and Tristian Ladouceur take advantage of an open lane on the bottom to drive under for third. Crane would settle in for a respective fourth place run and a good points night.

Season one champion (2024) Taylor Wason of Middlegrove, NY was on the move. Wason, who started 13^th raced his way to a solid 5^th place finish by races end.

NOTY contender and now points leader Chris Crane Jr. of Canaan, CT was also marching forward. Crane started 15^th and was racing for a top five spot before finishing 7^th respectively.

Despite lap traffic and late race challenges from Buff, Derrick McGrew Jr. continued his hot streak by cruising to the win and parking it in G&R Motorsports Victory Lane. For McGrew it’s his first CDRA series win and his first DIRTcar Championship series victory as well.

Rounding out the podium with McGrew was Zach Buff in second and Tristan Ladouceur in third.

Making up the top 10 were Connor Crane, Taylor Wason, Richard Murtaugh III, Chris Crane Jr., Nigel Pendykoski, Tyler Stevenson, and Matt Barbour.

“Connor was able to get out to the lead early and open it up a little bit. I knew I had to have patience. When I felt the bottom going away, I knew someone would be coming on the top. I’m glad I made the decision to move up or I would’ve been the one to get driven around,” said Derrick McGrew Jr. in G&R Motorsports Victory Lane.

He concluded saying “I know Zach is as good getting around this place as I am, which is why I tried to pinch a little on each restart. I kept it clean as possible and I know Zach tried his hardest, but I’m glad we pulled away with the win.”

Buff said, “We found the top first and I thought we were going to roll right around all of them, but I clipped Derrick’s bumper.” That let McGrew know Buff was coming on the top.

Ladouceur was the final podium finisher and modestly said, “We did exactly what we did last year. Started third and finished third. I really can’t complain. We come here once a year, while Derrick and Zach are some of the best out here. To be on the podium with them is awesome.”

CDRA NOTES: Three notes to take away from Rumble At The Ridge start with Scotia, NY racer Bodie Marks. Marks has one raced missed this season, which was a crown jewel at Lebanon, but he’s done well in the four events he has competed in and maintained his full-time status. At the Ridge he earned J-Tees Screen Printing fast timer award and raced to a solid 11^th place finish.

Sticking with the young gun theme, Cam VanZandt of Lee, MA is in a similar situation as Marks. Cam also missed one event this season and has maintained his full-time status, but his efforts at Glen Ridge this time around were leaps and bounds better than his last. He went from DNQ to fast time in his group, heat win, and finished all 40 laps in the main event.

Tavien Blowers of Caroga Lake, NY has also missed one event and hasn’t had the season he’d like. Sunday at Glen Ridge could be a boost of confidence in the young man however, as he improved 12 positions in the main event from 27^th to 12^th. Impressive run that hopefully has Blowers back on track for some solid finishes this fall.

CDRA TITLE WATCH: We have a new points leader for the first time this season. Canaan, CT racer and NOTY contender Chris Crane Jr. has been consistent and after the Ridge now leads CDRA points with just one PPE to go. Malta Massive Weekend for the Great Crate Classic.

Bradford, VT racer Joey Scarbrough had a tough outing at the Ridge and surrendered the point lead. But make no mistake he’s not out of it. Scarborough is still second in points and trails by only two. He will be looking for another podium finish at Albany-Saratoga for the final PPE on the season.

Connor Crane from Canaan, CT is also looking for a solid finish at Malta during Massive Weekend. ‘Kid Cushion’ is third in points and only five points behind big brother Chris. It’s going to a wild shootout during the final PPE as it’s a CDRA | DIRTcar Championship combined event.
