MALTA, NY – Race fans along with drivers from the Capital District and beyond will gather at Albany-Saratoga Speedway Tuesday June 25th for the Don Davies NY Modifieds 76, which features Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modifieds. Part of that program is the djdaviesmedia 26 for Sportsman Modifieds, which serves as the second points paying race on the CDRA schedule.

Information acquired from track promoter Lyle DeVore and via press released by JoAnn Davies revealed the entire format, bonuses, and winners share for the Sportsman Modified portion of the program aptly titled the djdaviesmedia 26 in memory of everyone’s favorite AARN writer, Don Davies. It starts with Cordova Plumbing presenting in part the $1,046 to win Sportsman main.

Bonus payouts don’t stop there however, as the leader of lap 8 and lap 18 will receive $76 courtesy of Madsen Overhead Doors out of Spencertown, NY. The name might sound familiar, as Dylan Madsen pilots his Sportsman Modified weekly at the great race place where he currently sits top five in weekly point standings.

Are there more bonuses for Sportsman Modifieds in the djdaviesmedia 26 portion of Don Davies Memorial night? Absolutely. The driver finishing 8th in the feature will receive a $118 bonus courtesy of Albany-Saratoga supporter Greg’s Towing & Repair out of Guilderland, NY. Greg’s name can be found often at the great race place, most notably on the side of Cody Bleau’s Sportsman Modified.

Remember the aforementioned Madsen Overhead Doors? They’re also rewarding the 18th place finisher with a $118 bonus in the djdaviesmedia 26.

Finally, if the car counts are sufficient enough for Albany-Saratoga to run two Sportsman Modified features, Cordova Plumbing out of Southbury, CT will offer the bonus amount to the winners of both djdaviesmedia 26-lap feature events. Racers should come out with the goal of setting record numbers for this event.

Racers should be legal based on the 2024 DIRTcar rulebook for the djdaviesmedia 26. Also, drivers should be prepared for timed laps to set heat race and/or feature lineups. As mentioned, the main event (or two) are 26-laps in distance paying a minimum of $1,046 to the victor. This is a CDRA points paying event, and should there be two features BOTH will be for full CDRA points.

“This is why we set CDRA up the way we did. It’s not the same format every race. We had timed laps set up heats and a redraw for the feature at the ridge in round one. Now in round two, it’s timed but there may be two features and instead of 40 laps the drivers are running 26 in the A-main. It’s wild how different the races can be. We’re just appreciative to be a small part of a great show in honor of one of the best human beings to grace our sport,” said CDRA competition director Rob Hazer.

Right now the current top 10 in JAM Performance CDRA points are Cody Ochs (105), Dylan Nichols (102), Dale Robinson (101), Jason Gray (100), Branden Gibbons (99), Jeremy Huntoon (98), Taylor Wason (97), Adam Lelie (96), Zach Buff (95), and Dylan Eldred (94).

Who might visit Finish Line Designs victory lane during the djdaviesmedia 26? Cody Ochs is coming into the event as a CDRA winner. Jason Gray is no stranger to winning at Albany-Saratoga, nor is Branden Gibbons who has a win this season at Malta himself. Taylor Wason, Zach Buff, Tim Hartman Jr., Chris Crane Jr., Joey Scarborough, and Dylan Madsen are all names to watch out for.

CDRA is a nostalgic throwback to the CVRA days. A series designed specifically for Capital District racing. Six races make up a diverse schedule at storied dirt tracks to crown a champion. Are you brave enough to live life on the ridge, battle at the great race place, and tame the valley of speed? The drivers who do will earn hardware and some green for their efforts.

“CDRA is a different approach to series racing, but with a nostalgic feel. And part of that nostalgia is having Malta again as our home base of operations if you will. I’m excited to be a small part of Lyle’s program again including Malta Massive weekend and the Don Davies special. Two great races that will highlight some solid racers our area offers,” said CDRA competition director Rob Hazer.

Joey Scarborough opened the 2024 weekly racing season with a win, before a red-hot Tim Hartman Jr. went for back-to-back trips to victory lane. Other drivers to keep an eye on that currently reside top 10 in Sportsman Modified points at Albany-Saratoga are Chris Crane Jr., Mike Coffey, Dylan Madsen, Chris Jakubiak, Dan Grignon, Travis Whitbeck, Dave Baranowski, and Darryl Nutting.

CDRA Offers Nostalgic Throwback To Capital District Racing Featuring Sportsman Modifieds

FONDA, NY – Once again the Sportsman Modified division will take center stage in a championship points series dedicated to racing exclusively in the Capitaland in upstate NY. Six points paying races will determine a champion for the Capital District Racing Association. Welcome to the CDRA.

According to Albany Times Union the Capital District, which is also referred to as Capitaland, is made up of 11 counties which include Albany, Columbia, Fulton, Greene, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Warren, and Washington. In those counties reside four unique and storied dirt racetracks.

Of those four unique and storied dirt racetracks there are three that have like-minded rules that allow drivers to move from one track to another for competition. They include Albany-Saratoga Speedway, Lebanon Valley Speedway, and Glen Ridge Motorsports Park. These three tracks will make up the 2024 CDRA schedule.

The series kicks off with a points paying race at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park on Sunday May 19th for their DIRTcar East Region event before returning to ‘The Ridge’ on July 28th as part of their Hall Of Fame Classic night.

CDRA heads to the Capital District hot spot for Friday Night racing in Malta, NY for the highly anticipated Don Davies NY Modified Memorial special at Albany-Saratoga Speedway on Tuesday June 25th. The series returns to Albany-Saratoga for a second visit during the speedways Malta Massive Weekend DIRTcar Sportsman event on September 20th.

Smack dab in the middle of the CDRA Racing schedule is the ‘Valley Swing’ with back-to-back races at Lebanon Valley Speedway on August 17th for Halloween Night and August 31st as part of Mr. Dirt Track USA Super DIRTcar Series night.

“With this project I explained up front it’s a very hands-off approach. Meaning with this series we don’t influence laps, format, purses, etc. We want the tracks to utilize what’s unique about the racing they offer. So, drivers may get draw-redraw at one race and then time trials at another. It’s different, and I like that,” said CDRA competition director Rob Hazer.

All about info, rules, point structure, points earned, driver roster, and more can be found on the website that is live now. There are of course marketing partners that make CDRA happen.

“For season one I wanted to keep it simple. Go back to basics sort of speak. I couldn’t do that without some marketing partners to get it built from the ground up,” continued Rob Hazer.

He concluded by saying, “I have to thank Lyle DeVore, Ron Dwyer, and Ray Sefrin first. I’m grateful for their enthusiasm on the project. Also, Chris Reckner from Elmo’s Speed Supply and JAM Performance for his continued support in projects I work on. He’s offering up monetary rewards for drivers to chase. That’s huge, and I appreciate what he does for the sport,” concluded Rob Hazer.

CDRA is built on nostalgia and is a throwback to the old CVRA days, except it’s specifically designed for the Capital District racing scene. Just six races on a diverse schedule will crown a champion who will earn hardware and some green for their efforts. A proverbial win-win for all involved.
