The Five: Top Point Earners Are Vastly Different Than A Year Ago After One Race With Jakubiak, Lussier, Scarborough, Hartman, and Madsen Leading The Way

FONDA, NY – Season Two of the JAM Performance CDRA Racing Series presented by Elmo’s Speed Supply has one points paying race on the scoreboard and the top five are all new title contending names including Chris Jakubiak, Donovan Lussier, Joey Scarborough, Tim Hartman Jr., and Dylan Madsen.

Chris Jakubiak: Noticing up and coming Sportsman Modified talent in the Capital District couldn’t be done without mentioning Chris Jakubiak. He’s gone from Limited Sportsman prospect to CDRA series winner and title contender wheeling his CQC Painting, Vertex Property Management, and HD Concrete Construction Bicknell Racing Chassis number 49.

Donovan Lussier: The country of Canada is currently represented in CDRA point standings thanks to St-Denis-sur-Richelieu, QC racer Donovan Lussier. The defending Airborne Speedway Sportsman Modified champ ‘went hard in the paint’ to secure the runner up spot in standings with his Remorquage Boissonneault, SD Performance Mechanique, and Metal Express Bicknell Racing Chassis number 61L.

Joey Scarborough: Bennington, VT racer Joey Scarborough is carrying on father Don’s legacy of contending for podiums and wins. He was battle ready fighting all feature long for heavily contested positions inside the top five with his family-owned Central Vermont Motorcycles, Quality Property Management, and Howe Center Auto Bicknell Racing Chassis number 11VT.

Tim Hartman Jr: Big time little Tim was the winningest Sportsman Modified driver in the Capitaland last season, and he’s already been to victory lane in 2025. Hartman was hot and heavy into the loud pedal charging to fourth after one PPR. He is easily a title contender driving the Kick Fly’s Quality Hemp Products, Doug Wholey Ideal Excavating, and Bemiss Trucking Service Mike Parillo owned DKM Cyclone Chassis number 22.

Dylan Madsen: From the outside looking in, this kid loves to race. Madsen utilized a series of solid moves to earn a top five CDRA finish, where he currently sits in points. He used that momentum to propel himself to a weekly win driving his Madsen Overhead Doors, Riberdy Contracting, and Fox Hill Campgrounds Bicknell Racing Chassis number 89.

Hard Luck: Last season Amsterdam, NY racer Zach Buff was a CDRA title contender with his West End Towing & Repair, Dig Racing Products, and Buff’s Auto Service Ray Sefrin owned Bicknell Racing Chassis number 01. This season he was notably frustrated with a DNF and scored 28th in the finishing order to start. But the series is headed to The Ridge next where he’s a championship winner. Only 34 points out of first, this is where he could bounce back.

UP NEXT FOR CDRA: Focus shifts to Glen Ridge Motorsports Park for a DIRTcar Sportsman East Series event on Sunday June 1st that doubles as a CDRA points paying race dubbed Quarter Mile Mayhem.

CDRA is a nostalgic throwback to the CVRA days. A series designed specifically for Capital District racing. Season two schedule consists of a diverse schedule at storied dirt tracks like the great race place, the fastest quarter mile on dirt, and the valley of speed. Drivers who do travel the Capitaland will earn hardware and some green for their efforts.

Chris Jakubiak Earns Career Highlight Win Over Stout 55 Car Field In CDRA Points Opener At Albany-Saratoga Speedway Sportsman Modified Spring Shootout

04/19/25: Chris Jakubiak earned his first CDRA points paying win at Albany-Saratoga Speedway. (Rocky Photography / RPW 2025)

MALTA, NY – Albany-Saratoga Speedway hosted the 2025 JAM Performance CDRA Racing Series points championship opener presented by Elmo’s Speed Supply, as part of their Super DIRTcar Series 60th Season kickoff program where Ballston Spa, NY racer Chris Jakubiak was victorious taking home the Cordova Plumbing and Heating winners loot and the series point lead.

55 of the Capital Districts most talented Sportsman Modified racers met up at the Malta, NY great race place to slap clay and claim victory. After Tyler Rapp, Chris Jakubiak, Joey Scarborough, Jon Miller, and Bryce Breault won qualifying heats and Taylor Wason with Zach Buff won last chance qualifiers the field was set for the 25-lap Spring Shootout.

Chris Jakubiak wasted no time putting his CQC Painting 49 in the lead over Tyler Rapp’s Trinity Construction Inc. 2a. That left Bennington, VT racer Joey Scarborough with his Central Vermont Motorcycles 11vt to battle with Spencertown, NY racer Dylan Madsen, Malta, NY racer Jon Miller, and Queensbury, NY racer Bryce Breault for top five positions.

St-Denis-sur-Richelieu, QC racer and Airborne champion Donovan Lussier was making moves using the high side early to improve from his 7th starting position wheeling his Remorquage Boissonneault 61L battling with Albany, NY racer Jeff Washburn and his R. Bowles Heating | Plumbing 18 car.

By the 1/3 mark of the feature event, it was clear Jakubiak had a bad fast race rod. That didn’t stop Eagle Ridge, NY racer Mike Benson with his Sausville Benson Financial 33b from waging war through the field with a hard charging Glenville, NY racer Tim Hartman Jr. driving his Kick Fly’s Quality Hemp Products 22 Cyclone.

In the mid portion of the race there were multiple 3-car battles going on including one between Lussier, Miller’s Lazzaro Auto Body 12 car, and the Advanced Auto Parts 2b of Bryce Breault. All that action wasn’t slowing defending Albany-Saratoga champion Hartman Jr. from applying pressure.

Just as Jakubiak hit lap traffic, Rapp made contact with the inside retaining wall in turn one that resulted in a flat left front and a subsequent yellow flag on lap 14.

The restart didn’t treat some drivers well, as inadvertent contact between Canaan, CT racer Chris Crane Jr. and Ballston Spa, NY racer Dan Grignon resulted in a multicar accident that left Amsterdam, NY racer Zach Buff unhappy with a heavily damaged West End Towing & Repair 01 racecar.

In the closing laps Jakubiak ran away and parked it in Scott Duell Marketing Designs victory lane, while Lussier hounded Scarborough eventually taking over the runner up position. Hartman Jr. crossed the finish line 4th, with the Madsen Overhead Doors 89 of Dylan Madsen completed the top five.

Rounding out the top ten were Canaan, CT racer Connor Crane, Jon Miller, Voorheesville, NY racer Pat Jones, Rensselaer, NY racer Cody Ochs, and Bryce Breault.

NOTES: The car count was healthy, crowd huge, and racing action packed. Canaan, VT racer Connor Crane drove his Crane’s Outdoor Power Equipment 711c impressively from 15th to 6th. Voorheesville, NY racer Pat Jones had a solid run from 18th to 8th. Finally, it’s rare a Sportsman Modified race in the Capital District doesn’t have a Tim Hartman Jr. mention. He made daring moves sometimes 3-deep to climb from 13th to 4th.

TITLE WATCH: Defending CDRA champion Taylor Wason had to dig himself out of a hole, and did so respectively winning an LCQ with his Lenihan Paving 07w and finishing 14th by races end. All eyes are on Chris Jakubiak now, who sits atop the series standings after points paying race one. However, only 6 points separate the top five drivers.

UP NEXT FOR CDRA: Focus shifts to Glen Ridge Motorsports Park for a DIRTcar Sportsman East Series event on Sunday June 1st that doubles as a CDRA points paying race dubbed Quarter Mile Mayhem.

FONDA, NY – Known as the high side hustler behind the wheel, Scott Duell is using his knowledge of dirt track racing and education in graphic design to blaze his own entrepreneurial trail after creating his own company Scott Duell Marketing and Designs LLC adding to the Duell Family Racing legacy in the Capital District.

SD (Scott Duell) Marketing and Designs LLC is joining the JAM Performance CDRA Racing Series presented by Elmo’s Speed Supply as an integral part of the design and marketing process through their innovative ideas stemming from race car wraps to social media campaigns.

After working years for others while his family continued to grow with wife Jade, two daughters Peyton and Parker, and another bundle of joy on the way this clay pounding poppa needed to make his own hours.

“I’ve been in the design and marketing world for over 15 years. About a year ago I decided it was time for my own business. So, Duell Marketing & Designs was launched and about a year later the boat is still afloat,” said SD proprietor Scott Duell.

His skills are limitless specializing in graphic design, marketing, custom helmet artwork, racecar wraps, social media, and more.

“Like the Days Of Thunder saying, there’s nothing I can’t do with design and marketing,” Duell said.

SD Designs and Marketing LLC is truly a one stop shop for racers or businesses who want a professional look with a personal touch that is guaranteed to catch the eye.

“I’ve known Scott for nearly 20 years. Like Chris (Recker) he’s always been supportive of projects I work on and willing to get involved. I’m glad he’s part of CDRA and we’ll get him working on some new designs for the upcoming season and who knows, maybe a sweet championship custom helmet,” said Rob Hazer, CDRA competition director.

FONDA, NY – Let’s talk podium finishes from Glen Ridge Motorsports Park, which did you know that Zach Buff topped the leaderboard with seven total? He won the track title over Taylor Wason by 18 points thanks to four wins, a second, and a pair of third place runs.

One of his wins earned came during a JAM Performance CDRA points paying race presented by Elmo’s Speed Supply on Hall Of Fame Classic night.

Cody Ochs earned himself a handful of podium finishes, including four wins to match Buff, and a third. Ochs was relegated to fifth in points respectively after suffering a few DNF’s on the season.

Stephen Gray ended his ridge season top five in final point standings on the strength of four podium finishes. Included in his podium finishes are two trips to victory lane, a runner up, and a third.

Tavien Blowers visited victory lane at the ridge on July 14th, and backed it up with four seconds to complete his season with five total podium finishes and a podium finish in overall final track points.

One more driver to note is Tyler Bobar, who earned four podium finishes of his own at the ridge. He scored a victory on June 16th, and added a runner up and two thirds to complete his solid season.

FONDA, NY – Let’s talk podium finishes again, this time checking in with Lebanon Valley Speedway. Did you know that Tim Hartman Jr. dominated the Sportsman Modified competition with record setting runs including 13 podium finishes, all wins?!

Of those wins, one came during a JAM Performance CDRA points paying race presented by Elmo’s Speed Supply in August.

Matt Burke was apparently the only other driver with a ticket to the victory lane party after parking it on the front stretch to close the season in West Lebanon, NY. It was his only podium finish on the year.

Michael Sabia tried hard to put his Teo Pro Car elite in victory lane, which earned him six podium finishes. He had four runner up finishes and a pair of third place runs, but never made it to the front stretch for a celebratory dub.

Impressive to note are the five podium finishes earned by Nick Giardini. They were all runner up finishes including three consecutive to start the season in 2024.

As part of our commitment to participating tracks we share weekly results and/or stats from the Sportsman Modified division as a lead up to CDRA points paying race results and/or stats. We appreciate the valley of speed, what they offer to Capital District racing, and their support of CDRA.

Zach Buff earned six podium finishes with one victory, three second place runs, and a couple of thirds.

Equally as impressive was Craig Wholey who had six podium finishes without a win. He earned six runner up finishes including one during a CDRA points paying race.
