October 23, 2021 – Fonda, NY – Blog By Rob Hazer: Everyone involved with the Capital District racing scene knows Chris Reckner. ‘The dude’ is that friendly face you see when visiting Elmo’s Speed and Supply for new and quality used parts, where he took on the role of operating the shop while dear old dad tours the retirement circuits. Yesterday Chris had a medical emergency and could use all the well wishes, positive vibes, and prayers you can send.

I had received a text telling me about his possible serious health issues, and asking me if I heard anything. I immediately reached out to Elmo via text, which I know he hates, but I didn’t want to be a pain with what’s going on. He told me some details and asked me to put something out, so here it is.

First Elmo told me from what he knows at this time, Chris is doing well after having a stroke. Complications arose from health issues he has had in the past that he personally discussed with me. They’re unsure on a cardiac event of sorts, but no A-Fib or anything since he’s been on the monitor in St. Peters hospital in Albany NY. Chris does have some numbness on the left side still, and is being tested to make sure things are under control.

Elmo had this to say, “I just wanted to thank everyone who has reached out to us by calling or messaging. I’m actually on a cross country trip with my wife (Theresa) and in Tennessee right now, so if I missed getting back to someone I apologize. I’m trying to get back to every call and text, while also communicating back home to get more updates on what’s going on with Chris.”

Good news is ‘the dude’ may be moved to Sunny View for rehab sometime within the next couple days. Tests have all come back negative so far, meaning he’s doing well all things considered. This is some sort of relief I’m sure for his wife and daughter who have been with him since he was hospitalized.

I’m sending my well wishes to Chris, along with positive vibes, thoughts, and prayers to his family and friends. Hang in there my dude. Lot of life left on that engine. #MLIU
